History

It all began as an outreach planted by Bethel Assembly of God Church in 1975. Called Bethel Chapel then, our pioneering pastor was Ps John Ong. Then two years later Bethel Chapel became independent, and was renamed as Berean Assembly of God Church.

In 1987, Ps John Ong left to pastor a Chinese church in the US, and Ps Jack Theva became the lead Pastor. During this period, the church worshipped at various locations before it finally bought its first premises at Geylang.

In 2004, Ps Gerry Poon took over as Senior Pastor of the church. The following year, we moved to our present location at Roxy Square. Under the leadership of Ps Gerry, the church embarked on an exercise to re-position our church for growth.

In 2007, the congregation was invited to participate in the name change, and “Harborlight Church” was chosen as the new name.

Why “Harborlight”? Like a harbor where ships go to rejoin, refuel, repair and reassign to new missions, Harborlight Church is a place where people gather to rejoice, refresh, rebuild and release to God’s purpose for our lives. It aptly describes the mission and vision of a biblical church; a name that is easy to say, remember and recognize; and a name that is culturally relevant to the post-modern world that Jesus called us to reach.
