Our History

2004

The Beginning

Called Berean Assembly of God (started from 1975) at the time, Ps Gerry Poon took over as lead pastor of the church. The following year, we moved to our present location at Roxy Square. Under the leadership of Ps Gerry, the church embarked on an exercise to re-position our church for growth.

2007

A New Identity

We rebranded to Harborlight Church, and began our children's ministry - Royal Rangers, as well as our youth ministry - Livewire. We received a prophetic word for HLC to grow to be a big church and that HLC will have an institute of teaching where people will come and learn the ways of ministry from us.

A Call to The Nations

Received a prophetic word that HLC has a call to the nations, a mandate to send teams of worshippers to open heavens and push back darkness, and to raise a passionate generation that will be sent to dark and unreached places.

Over the years, we sent teams for various missions such as Medical Missions, Prayer Missions, Ministry Missions, Discipleship Training and Church Consultations.

Being the Light in our Harbor

Reaching beyond the four walls of our church, we rallied together to plan two major outreaches. Our Royal Rangers ministry did a Pinewood Car Derby event at Marine Parade Promenade, hosting an open-invite event drawing large crowds of families and bringing awareness to our children's ministry.

We also organised a Christmas Outreach, “A Different Christmas”, at Parkway Parade, where we put together an evangelistic performance with the singing of Christmas carols, as well as a special dance performance. Through this, we sought to make HLC known by shining our light and spreading God’s love in the community.

Our Call in Action

In response to God's call to send teams to the nations, more than 12 teams were sent for Mission Exposure Trips and Mission Impact Trips. The church as a whole (even youths!) had the opportunity to participate in different kinds of missions as we stepped out in faith to obey God's call over us. Over the years, HLC has sent teams to nations like Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, and China.

Building the Next Generation

School of Discipleship was formed, where 13 leaders went through an intensive 10-month training, learning Bible courses and growing in practical ministry practices like preaching. This included a 10-day mission trip to Bogor and Bandung, Indonesia, where we ministered at services and children's programs.

Little Lights, our nursery program was formed! For ages 0-4, we aimed to provide a safe, nurturing space for infants and toddlers to learn, play, and grow in God's love.

Preparing for the Harvest

To position ourselves for greater growth, we went through a major renovation of our space and expanded our auditorium. This has stretched our capacity to be able to sit 400 people for a single service. This step of faith has postured us to be ready for multiplication and accomodate more people as the church grows.

Annual Family Day

Every National Day, we come together as one big church family to intentionally reach out to those around us. This includes church-wide events such as prawning, bowling and individual zone events. Over the years, we have welcomed many newcomers and families into our community through this annual family day.

We rebranded our cell groups to 'Connect Groups', where we focus on Evangelism, Nurture and Discipleship. We also launched our HLC Mission Statement: Love God, Love People, Make Disciples.

Greater Things

Received a prophetic word that God has Greater Things in store for HLC, He will come and we will experience Greater Harvest, Greater Evangelism, Greater Revival, and Greater Discipleship.

For the first time in HLC, we are seeing an unprecedented number of salvations, multiplication of Connect Groups, growth in ministries and people desiring to rise up to build God's church. We believe that this is just the beginning of an even greater revival that is about to come. We look forward to the many ways that God intends to use Harborlight Church, Harborlight Institute and Harborlight Missions, as we believe for Greater Things to come!
